FAQ

Thapar Institute offers UG/PG/Ph.D. programmes. Admission 2020 has already started. The last date to apply is 31st July ,2020.

You can apply to various programs offered by Thapar Institute through an online application form available at the website of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology.

For the session 2020-21, the admission shall be made on the basis of merit of aggregate of three subjects namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject*. In the event of a tie, the same will be broken as per the following criteria.

Tie-Breaker: The tie at 10+2 PCM marks shall be broken by overall percentile score of JEE(Main)- January 2020.

In case of tie at percentile, the same shall be broken by following order:

  • Candidates obtaining higher Percentile Score in Mathematics in the JEE(Main)- January 2020.
  • Candidates obtaining higher Percentile Score in Physics in the JEE(Main)-January 2020.
  • Candidates obtaining higher Percentile Score in Chemistry in the JEE(Main)-January 2020.
  • Candidates with higher marks in English at 10+2. e) Candidates older in age to be preferred.

Changes in application form are restricted to class 12th board marks and branch preference order. You can make these changes using your login id and password. For any other changes in your application form, mail your concern at technical_support@thapar.edu or reach them at 8882134828.

If payment is done by Demand Draft then the draft should be made in favor of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, and should be payable at Patiala.

The application form fee is non-refundable; however, the course fee is refundable as per the norms of the institute.

Please set your branch order according to your programme preference using your login id and password. The change in the branch preference can be made only once the student has paid the application fees. Also, the selected preferences will freeze after 31st July, that is the student will not be able to further edit the programme preference.

The counseling will only be done through online mode. For this, you do not have to visit the campus.

It is desirable if you mention your JEE Main score. According to the revised criteria, we are now offering all seats based on PCM marks. In the event of a tie-breaker at 10+2 marks, one of the criteria to break will be the overall percentile score of JEE(Main)- January 2020. Click here for more details.

No, once the last date is over the student cannot apply at Thapar Institute. The candidate must remain in touch with the institute website for all such details.

No, if you missed the session on the concerned date then the candidate has to wait for the next round of counseling that may be announced by the institute.

The admission fee is to be paid after allocation of provisional seats during the online counseling for UG programmes within a stipulated time as mentioned on our website.

The institute will fetch the 10+2 /JEE Main result from the respective Board/NTA website. Original documents will be verified at the time when candidates will join the campus physically.

Due to COVID-19 situation, we have decided to start our new academic session in the online mode from 1st September. Hostel accommodation will be offered to students only after we decide to commence classes on campus after the necessary instructions are issued by the state government/regulator.

Candidate wishing to withdraw the seat, must submit the application to IN-CHARGE, ADMISSION CELL, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology. The fee will be refunded after adjusting all the outstanding dues (if any).

As and when JEE(Main)-2020 result is declared, admissions for vacant seats in subsequent rounds of counselling will be done based on JEE(Main)-2020 rank only. In case JEE(Main)-2020 result is not available by the third round of counselling then admissions will be done on the basis of criteria followed in the first three rounds.

Yes, you can avail loans from any bank as per their terms and conditions.

The mess charges will be collected separately for a semester.

The medium of instruction in classrooms is English. All classrooms are ICT enabled and are well equipped with Audio-Visual Systems.

Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology does not have any management quota seats.

There is no entrance examination for students seeking admission under FN/NRI category to any programme except PhD programme.

There is no separate entrance test conducted by TIET for admission to 1 st year of any UG program. Admissions to UG program is done as per merit prepared by Thapar Institute of Engineering &Technology on the basis of marks secured by the candidate in 10+2 PCM.

Admission to Second Year of BE/BTech Lateral Entry will be made on the basis of merit of marks secured in Diploma by the candidates applying to a particular programme.

INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING PROGRAMME (IEP)

The IEP undergraduate programme is multi-dimensional, having a strong technical focus and also an emphasis on developing other skills engineers require, such as team working skills, knowledge of ethics and an awareness of the social and environmental impacts of their work. The admission to the undergraduate credit transfer program is purely on merit and is the same as in other engineering undergraduate programmes. The eligibility conditions are the same as for regular undergraduate engineering programs offered by TIET. The students will be admitted in the IEP undergraduate programs in the branch available as per their merit at the time of exercising their choice at TIET. The students will also be allocated a TIET branch based on their merit when compared to regular TIET students (those who enroll for a 4-year program at TIET). Maximum seats that can be offered under this programme are (subject to minimum eligibility conditions of Credit Transfer as mentioned in ‘International Engineering Programme’ prospectus).

Under this program Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology through its Centre for International Relations has a credit transfer International Engineering Program (IEP) in collaboration with Trinity College Dublin, University of Dublin (TCD) and University of New South Wales (UNSW).

The academic agreement between Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology and Trinity College Dublin provides the students admitted to undergraduate engineering programs at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) the opportunity to study at Ireland’s leading university well known as Trinity College, Dublin. The eligible students will pursue the first two years of their course at TIET before transferring to TCD in years 3 and 4 of the degree program, subject to meeting the minimum academic requirements to get transferred to TCD. The final degree shall be awarded by Trinity College, Dublin.

The TIET - UNSW Program is expected to involve students studying a total of at least four semesters at TIET and a minimum of two academic years at UNSW, subject to them satisfying progression requirements at all stages. Students may commence their studies at UNSW in the first term, of year three of the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electrical Engineering program. On successful completion of both programs, the students will be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electrical Engineering by UNSW.

The eligibility conditions are same as for regular undergraduate engineering programs offered by Thapar Institute students will be admitted in the undergraduate IEP in the branch available as per their TIET rank at the time of exercising their choice.

The duration of the International Engineering program (IEP) offered by TIET/TCD is four years. The admitted students will pursue the first two years of their course in TIET before transferring to TCD for years 3 and 4 of the degree program, subject to meeting the minimum academic requirements.

The fee to be paid for International Engineering Program (IEP) is 1.5 times the total normal fee of regular UG program at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala for first two years.

The degree will be awarded by Trinity College, Dublin at the completion of the course at TCD.
